Shyamacharan Nursery was founded by Shri Amulya Charan Ghara in 1915. He dreamt of a greener world and named it after his father Shyamacharan Ghara. His father was passionate about planting trees. With 4 bighas of land received as a reward for his father’s honesty, Shri Amulya started this nursery.
Shri Amulya Charan was a visionary for a green world and a freedom fighter. He was deeply influenced by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He supported and participated in India’s independence movement. His nursery served as a haven for freedom fighters. Here, he blended his love for plants with his patriotic fervor.
The nursery flourished and expanded from 4 to 200 bighas under his skilled management. He diversified the business by selling flowers, fruits, rice, and jute. He made Shyamacharan Nursery a well-known name in Howrah and Kolkata.
Shri Amulya Charan was the pioneer of girls’ education in Baidyabati. He established Charushila Bose Balika Vidyalaya, the first girl’s school in Baidyabati in 1943.
Sadly, Amulya Charan’s early demise riddled the fate of the nursery. Yet, his legacy of 109 years lives on, inspiring future generations to keep Shyamacharan Nursery thriving and green.
